Kitten Heels Are Here To Stay - Anum Thanvi Sharif

Trainer heels as they were called, gained prominence in the 1950’s for the for the teens as they were to prepare the young girl for stilettoes. For their practical and comfort purposes, kitten heels soon became popular amongst woman of all ages. For the woman like stance it gave one’s posture and for its feminine style kitten heels reigned the fashion scene during the 1960’s and 1980’s as well.

There was a period is 2000 when the kitten heels suddenly became less stylish for the fashionable and were looked upon as drab and shabby, but thanks to big names like Audrey Hepburn, who flaunted kitten heels in her famous features like “Breakfast at Tiffany’s" and “Sabrina” and Michelle Obama who in when started doing her public appearances managed to pull of the look immaculately – set a high position for the shoes as a part of the pop culture.

Today kitten heels are yet again in the limelight, thanks to Demna Gvasalia, creative director of both Vetements and Balenciaga in collaboration with Manolo Blahnik from the runways of spring 2017.
Then came Maria Grazia Chiuri’s collection of Dior, Celine’s kitten heel mules, Gucci’s slingbacks and feathered Prada’s. What counts most is the styling done with the heels to appear more aesthetic, stylish and the perfect feminine flats to have as a sophisticated stiletto.

The best thing about kitten heals apart from there comfort is that they can be worn during any season with any style, the only thing you must be careful about is that they should never be worn with chunky heels or round toes. Always remember the point is to look classy and elegant, not a kindergarten student going for a playdate.

Just somethings do be sure of when flaunting a pair of kittens … since kitten heels are low, pay attention to the length of the skirt/ dress that you are pairing with them. Especially if you are petite, avoid wearing kitten heels with long length garments such as skirts, dresses or even wide-legged pants.
